Optimizing Images for Upload in the Email Marketing Tool

E-mail Print PDF

So you’ve picked the perfect list of prospects to send your email to, chosen the template that you want to modify, and written an attention getting subject line and message.

You select an image to replace in the template, and click the button to upload your eye-catching image, when…Bam!...you get a pop message stating “File size (123 KB) is too large. The maximum file size allowed is set to: 100 KB.”

image of error for uploading image that is too large

So now what? If you have a graphic designer on staff (or on contract) ask them to resize/ optimize the image in a way that brings its size to at or below the 100 KB limit.

If you are doing it yourself, here are a couple of techniques you can use:
1.    Open the original image file in an image editor, such as Photoshop or Fireworks.
2.    In Photoshop, select Image > Image Size (In Fireworks: Modify > Canvas > Image Size) and resize the image to a width of no more than 800 pixels (we recommend no more than 600 pixels).  In Photoshop, you may also use the File > Save for Web & Devices option.
3.    Right click on the image and choose Properties to ensure that it is 500 KB or less.

Other tips:
•    Use RGB color mode (do not use CMYK).
•    Flatten any image layers.
•    Test different image formats. (Saving a certain PNGs as a JPG, may cut file size in half.)

Note: Images can be resized after they are inserted by clicking on the image and dragging the corners.

How to pick just the number of leads you need

E-mail Print PDF

When the number of leads you find on InfoUSA.com exceeds the number of mail pieces, emails or phone calls you are prepared to handle (or the amount of money you are prepared to spend), we offer several ways for you to get just the right number of leads you need.

Let’s use an example where we assume you are a restaurateur looking to expand your clientele. You are planning on sending a mailing to every household in the 68127 ZIP Code. To begin running this list, visit our U.S. Consumer build a list flow.

To view a tutorial on how to build a list of U.S. Businesses, click here.

To view a tutorial on how to build a list of U.S. Consumers, click here.

In our example, the list total is 6,568 – great to know that there are that many potential customers – but it will require more postage than you have budgeted (see Example 1). You have two choices at this point, you can add criterion (such as household income or home value) to reduce the number of leads, or, you can choose a random sample.

Example 1

There’s one way…

First, let’s take a look at how to add criterion to reduce the number of leads.

To add criterion, click on the tab that contains the selections you want to target. To add household income, click on Basic Demographics (see Example 2). To target by home value, click on the Housing & Finance tab.

Example 2

Select criterion to bring the number of leads down to the amount you can handle (use the Update Count button on the top right of the page to instantly see how many leads you have), and then click the View Price button to proceed through the checkout flow (you may be asked to sign in).

…And then there’s another

To choose the exact number of leads you would like to recieve, click on the Continue to Checkout button (see Example 3). This will take you to the first page of the checkout process (if you are not signed in, you will be asked to sign in before proceeding to checkout).

Example 3

On the Package page, locate and click the “I want fewer leads” link (see Example 4) near the top right corner of the page.

Example 4

The How many leads do you want? pop up will appear. Enter the number of leads you need and click the Update Count & Price button. In our example, you enter 5,000 (see Example 5). Our system will pull a random sample of exactly 5,000 from the total number of available leads.

Example 5

The number of leads will update, along with the price (see Example 6). Now you just click Select This Package under the type of list you would like to receive.

Example 6

If you need even fewer leads click the link again; if you decide to revert back to original count, you can click the small button with the blue arrow to undo the random sample. Click Select This Package and continue down the normal path for ordering a list.

Later, if you wish to market to the rest of the list, sign in to your account, locate the list you previously ordered under the Ordered Lists tab and click on the Order More button (see Example 7).
